Workplace Safety Management Basics – Basic Workplace Health & Safety Documents

A number of documents are required for thorough workplace health and safety management to take place. Our WHS consultants can assist you with creating and filling out these documents.

Safe Work Method Statements (or SWMS) are designed to specify the appropriate tasks/steps and hazards associated with a job. This document identifies the tools required for the job, the appropriate PPE, and the persons who will be using the document.

Job Site Audits (or Job Safety Analysis) are documents that need to be completed before the job starts each day to identify the hazards of the job and note any changes in the environment if the job takes longer than a day.

Safe Work Procedures (or SWP) are designed to specify the appropriate operating steps and hazards associated with the use of a specific tool/equipment.

This register highlights to staff and emergency personnel which products used are hazardous/dangerous and how to best treat affected persons.

This register identifies what equipment has been tested and tagged and is safe to use on-site. It also identifies when the Test & Tag is due.

This form is usually filled out by the staff and helps management with any previously unidentified hazards. This form also needs to be filled in whenever an incident or near-miss occurs in the workplace.

WHS Consultation FAQs

A WHS consultant is a professional skilled in health and safety issues as they relate to the workplace. They help guarantee compliance with rules and regulations while also working to ensure businesses follow current best practices in WHS matters.

Workplace health and safety consultants use their understanding and skills to collaborate with a business to strengthen the health and safety of their workplace

WHS consulting is of immediate benefit to any business, organisation or undertaking where involved workers are likely to be directly affected by a health and safety matter.

What are the benefits of outsourcing WHS procedures?

Outsourcing to professional workplace health and safety consultants, reduces your costs of maintaining specialised in-house staff qualified in WHS matters. Some of the key benefits to you as a business owner, are:

  • Better safety and compliance – a professional consulting firm, will vet the consultants they hire which means you do not have to. Were you to hire an in-house WHS professional, you would have to vet their knowledge, experience and qualifications yourself, however, doing so successfully requires a degree of WHS knowledge from you as well. Ultimately, this means that when you outsource, you can count on a higher quality advice, from better qualified HR consulting
  • Less stress – Consequently, having access to better advice, means you do not have to worry about health, safety and compliance matters as much, by comparison.
  • Cost reduction – There are a number of overheads involved in maintaining in-house staff, especially in positions that are not always constantly required in your business. Outsourcing allows you to avoid those costs, by giving you access to professional consultants only when you need their help.

Why us? We have started Bramwell Partners as a response to an ever increasing need for consulting services related to workplace health, safety, and compliance matters. We focus not only on providing high quality consulting services, but we also aim to do so in a way that adds value to your business, within your budgetary constraints.

After the WorkSafe QLD site inspection report, a job site audit aims to identify and assess the health and safety matters and concerns regarding several key areas of said site (where and as applicable):

  • Compliance with administrative requirements
  • Compliance with training, risk management and general requirements
  • Consultation, cooperation, and coordination matters
  • Safe work method statements
  • The work environment itself
  • Falling objects and public protection matters
  • Ladders and ladder supported platforms
  • Scaffolding
  • Demolition
  • Welding and hot work
  • Essential underground services
  • Excavation
  • Electrical
  • Plant operation
